Legacy through Scholarship

The Community Foundation oversees 17 scholarship funds, each with its own legacy. This month we spotlight the Ruth Henderson Memorial Scholarship—a scholarship fund that has made significant impact for the student recipients and the communities in which they live.

Created in honor of Ruth Henderson, a kindergarten teacher who dedicated 40 years of her life to her profession, the Ruth Henderson Memorial Scholarship has awarded nearly $600,000 since its inception to students pursuing a degree in education. Awardees are all from Eastern Colorado.

Learn about Ruth’s heartwarming story and hear from one of this year’s scholars in our blog.

Stepping Up for Boulder County Fire Victims

In the wake of the Boulder County fires, we are proud to recognize the many ways our Community Foundation family came together to support our neighbors to the south. From donating essential items, housing people, pets, and livestock, and providing financial support through the Community Foundation of Boulder County’s Wildfire Fund, our community showed up in a big way. Thank you for your care and compassion. Because of your contributions, the road to recovery will be easier for the thousands of individuals impacted by this disaster.

A Colorado Gives Day to Remember

For the 12th annual Colorado Gives Day, held December 7, 2021, Coloradans everywhere stepped up in droves to support local nonprofits, making this the most successful Colorado Gives Day to date. In Larimer County, 12,662 supporters donated to 201 local nonprofits, raising a total of $2,730,715! Well done, Larimer County!

As Colorado Gives Day regional champion for Larimer County, the Foundation hosted a Colorado Gives kick-off rally in November for participating nonprofits, awarding three organizations grants of $1,500 each. Colorado Kids Belong, Junior League Fort Collins, and Early Childhood Council of Larimer County were selected at random for these grants.

Community Fund Committees: Fort Collins and Loveland

Two communities served by the Community Foundation are Fort Collins and Loveland. The Foundation’s Community Fund Committees (CFCs) representing each city are responsible for recommending grants from unrestricted and field of interest funds to benefit their respective communities. Each fund has a distinct area of focus.
