Community Champions
Over the past two years, we have witnessed remarkable, large-scale impact from our community. Through the COVID-19 Response Fund—a partnership between the Community Foundation and United Way of Larimer County—65 nonprofit organizations received funding that allowed them to adapt programming and continue vital services in 2020. The NoCo Fires Fund raised $750,000 to help mitigate the destruction caused by last year’s wildfires—funding critical for watershed protection and environmental restoration.
These are incredible demonstrations of the impact the Community Foundation can have on our region by working in collaboration with other community leaders and harnessing the generosity of Northern Colorado.
To ensure the Foundation can continue addressing key community issues, responding to crises, and planning for our region’s future wellbeing, we ask you to consider becoming a Community Champion. End-of-Year Tax Considerations
- Guidelines for IRA Charitable Rollovers
Donors aged 70 1/2 or older can transfer up to $100,000 annually from their IRA accounts directly to qualified public charities without having to recognize the distribution as income. - These rules do not apply to contributions to donor advised funds or supporting organizations. They do apply to Community Foundation funds, like Community Champions or Designated Funds.

Staff Changes at the Foundation
Mishelle Baun
Thank you, Mishelle
The Foundation said a fond farewell to Content and Media Specialist, Mishelle Baun, last month. An impactful staff member since 2017, Mishelle’s contributions helped advance the Foundation and elevate communications to new levels. We are grateful for her service and wish her all the best in the next phase of her life. Thank you, Mishelle!
Welcome Robyn and Sydney
The Foundation excitedly welcomes two new staff members.
Robyn Goldy joins the Foundation as events & communications specialist. Having an extensive background in higher education in alumni relations, Robyn’s rich experience will ensure meaningful Foundation events and expert communications.
Sydney Clevenger is the Foundation’s new accounting specialist, helping manage daily accounting functions and ensuring accurate gift allocation. Her rich accounting experience in the private sector will be invaluable in providing high-quality financial services.

Board of Trustees Retreat
Earlier this fall, fund holders participated in a survey about their experiences with the Foundation. We were delighted to learn that 96% of respondents were likely or very likely to recommend the Foundation’s services. Aspects of customer satisfaction that particularly shined included:
- Responsiveness of Foundation staff
- The Foundation’s leadership
- The Foundation’s impact on the community
The Foundation is honored by the many fund holders who trust us to facilitate their philanthropy. Thank you for investing in Northern Colorado and beyond, and thanks to the many individuals who were willing to share their invaluable feedback through this survey.
Last month, members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees gathered for a powerful retreat at TPC Colorado in Berthoud. At the retreat, fund holder survey responses helped inform the Board and provide input for the future direction of the Foundation.
This 12-person team of community leaders sees a bright future for Northern Colorado and is excited for the impact and collaboration to come.
Foundation Community Funds Award $151,698 to Area Nonprofits
The Community Foundation of Northern Colorado offers monetary support to nonprofits and charitable projects through grant and program distributions. Local fund committees review nonprofit applications and select award recipients in their respective communities.
The Berthoud Community Fund Committee awarded $35,550 to nine nonprofits, the Estes Valley Community Fund Committee awarded $94,330 to 17 projects, and Loveland Generations, a Loveland-based giving group, awarded $21,818 to eight organizations. Congratulations to all 34 grant recipients and thank you to the fund committees for your dedication to make these awards possible.

NoCo Rallies for Colorado Gives Day
The Foundation was thrilled to host our 9th Colorado Gives Day Rally to kick off giving season on November 9! Nonprofit attendees had fun gathering and playing games with delicious food from the Waffle Lab and drink from the Human Bean. Thanks to FirstBank for generously covering this cost, which made it possible for the Foundation to award two $1,500 grants. The two nonprofit recipients were selected at random (Colorado Kids Belong & Junior League Fort Collins), and we look forward to awarding a final $1,500 on this year’s Colorado Gives Day.
