On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff, I am pleased to share the NoCo Foundation’s 2025 Impact Report. This report highlights the Foundation’s most recent fiscal year and reflects on meaningful moments and milestones from across 2025.

This past year marked a significant achievement for the NoCo Foundation. Through 1,757 grants, donors invested more than $16.5 million in nonprofit organizations across Northern Colorado and beyond, representing the largest annual grantmaking impact in the Foundation’s history. This milestone is a powerful testament to the generosity of our donors and the strength of our nonprofit partners.

As we look ahead, I am deeply grateful for what we have accomplished together and energized by the work before us. While change is inevitable and uncertainty remains, our community continues to demonstrate a shared commitment to meeting urgent needs, expanding opportunity, and preparing the next generation of civic and philanthropic leaders.

Making more good possible is at the heart of everything we do. Thank you to our donors, partners, and community members who make this work, and this impact, possible.

I invite you to explore the highlights of the NoCo Foundation’s 2025 year and look forward to connecting with you in the year ahead.

50 Years of Philanthropy

One of our biggest highlights of 2025 was celebrating 50 Years of Philanthropy, or the NoCo Foundation’s 50th anniversary. We had the chance to connect with old and new friends, and honor those who helped establish and grow the NoCo Foundation into what we are today—a thriving, dynamic organization dedicated to community well-being across Eastern and Northern Colorado. One of the most meaningful milestones we highlighted during our anniversary celebration was that the NoCo Foundation has granted more than $150 million into community well-being through 20,000 grants to nonprofits in the region and beyond since our founding in 1975!

Check out the celebratory highlights here, including:

  • Photo galleries
  • Digital timeline of key milestones
  • Videos
  • Digital commemorative magazine
  • Proclamations from five cities acknowledging 2025 as the Year of Philanthropy

We might be middle aged in “people years”, but in “community building years”, we are just getting started. Thank you to all who have contributed to the NoCo Foundation’s past, and to those who are excited about joining us in the future. We are so much better together.

HIGHLIGHTS OF 2025

Increasing Access to Housing through Community Partners and Philanthropy

Regional population growth continues to put pressure on an inadequate housing stock. While Larimer County saw steady population growth until the last several years, Weld County continues to experience rapid population growth as the region becomes more urbanized. When new neighbors arrive, and many longtime residents also want to remain here, housing becomes the hinge upon which everything else depends. Based on a recent report from the Common Sense Institute, 79.9% of Larimer County households can’t afford the average-priced home in the County. This represents the highest “affordability mismatch” in the state.

For years, housing professionals and sector leaders have been working diligently on the issues and strategies to close housing gaps; however, there hasn’t been regional coordination. In 2025, the NoCo Foundation launched its Regional Housing Initiative. Throughout 2025, the NoCo Foundation met with housing stakeholders across the region to help map the gaps and learn more about specific challenges.

The Foundation now convenes five regional workgroups, each bringing together cross-sector leaders committed to doing things differently.

  1. Identifying strategic investment opportunities for home construction
  2. Exploring ways to reduce the cost of building homes
  3. Brainstorming ways for innovative partnerships to fill gaps in affordable housing
  4. Increasing public and political will for diverse housing stock
  5. Creating regional solutions with local government leaders

The work is just getting underway, but the momentum is real and energizing. Philanthropy alone cannot solve the housing crisis, but philanthropy can bring together innovators and create space for solutions. Watch for more progress in 2026.

Strengthening the Nonprofit Sector Through a Shared Vision

We believe our community is strongest when our nonprofits work in concert. In 2025, the NoCo Foundation gathered leaders from across the region to bridge the distance between organizations and spark new collaborative opportunities. By holding space for shared problem-solving and strategic alignment, we are ensuring that our sector operates as a cohesive, powerful force for good. Our work continues into 2026 with a renewed focus on the partnerships that will define our community’s future. Connect with us to learn more info@nocofoundation.org.

Community Impact Maker Award: The Newendorp Family

The NoCo Foundation was honored to recognize the deep impact the Newendorp family has made in Northern Colorado with the Community Impact Maker Award in November 2025. Donna and Paul Newendorp retired to Estes Park in the late 1980s and quickly made it their adopted hometown. They took their role as community members seriously, often working behind the scenes as volunteers, leaders, and philanthropists to make sure their neighbors were safe, fed, and supported. Paul passed away in 2023 but Donna and her son, Mark, and daughter-in-law Susan, carry on the legacy.

Mark has served on several Boards of Directors and committees in the Estes Park area, including as a NoCo Foundation Board of Trustee and Estes Park Community Fund Committee Chair. The Newendorp’s generosity runs deep; they give their time and talent to many organizations, and support initiatives that they care deeply about.

Brian Schaffer, the Executive Director of Crossroads Assistance Ministry in Estes Park knows firsthand the kind of hard work and wise contributions the family has made over the last 30 years. During the November award ceremony, Brian shared his perspective on the Newendorp family’s impact; whether the family is serving on the front lines of the food pantry, or connecting with clients over a shared experience, or being a Board President, Brian is in awe of their transformational contributions.

For the NoCo Foundation, we are eternally grateful for the family’s continual generosity, leadership, and participation in community philanthropy. The family models community leadership and impact in everything they do.

What’s Ahead

Solving our housing challenges requires us to speak the same language. This spring, look for a new Regional Housing Challenges report designed to bring Larimer and Weld Counties together around a shared understanding of the issue and set of housing solutions. This isn’t just about numbers; it’s about building a collective path forward for housing access and stability. Alongside this new alignment, the NoCo Foundation is offering community members a way to take direct action through two impact investing funds designed to solve housing issues through multiple lenses.

While the NoCo Foundation celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025, we are looking forward to honoring and celebrating 10 years of philanthropy in Northeast Colorado in 2026. Since the six counties and leaders of Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma joined the NoCo Foundation in 2016, the region has enthusiastically embraced community philanthropy. With more than $24 million in fund assets, the Eastern Colorado office of the NoCo Foundation is on a path of continued success and impact.

When we come together to support our rural communities and unique way of life, we build on the foundation of generations before us, ensuring the same values and attributes continue past our lifetimes. Save the date for a special fundraising event, Keys for Community, May 30, 2026 in Sterling, to celebrate the pride of Logan County. All donations that evening will support the Sterling Community Fund.

What makes a community thrive? In Northeast Colorado, the answer is simple: grit, generosity, and connection. From the wide-open fields of Yuma County to the small-town main streets of Morgan and Logan Counties, people here know how to show up for one another.

The NoCo Foundation and Colorado State University (CSU) are partnering together to create the new Northeast Colorado Intersections Report, which will be released in spring 2026. The Report will combine regional data with local insight, similar to what the NoCo Foundation and CSU accomplished in 2024 with the Northern Colorado Intersections Report, Pursuing Community Well-Being. Together, these findings tell a story of a region that is powered by adaptability, ingenuity, and a deep sense of responsibility to one another.

Would you like to meet the people who are stepping up, giving back, and strengthening our region? Would you like to hear positive regional news? If you answered yes to either question, you are in luck! The NoCo Foundation is launching our first podcast series in March 2026, on KRFC 88.9FM and streaming online.

The NoCo Voices Podcast: Conversations with neighbors strengthening Northern Colorado, will air monthly and will share stories of connection, collaboration, and community impact across Northern Colorado. The podcast is made possible through the generous support of KRFC 88.9FM. Streaming information will be shared in early March through the Inspire Newsletter, nocofoundation.org, and on social media.

Parting Thoughts

There is something about a short poem that gets to a complex topic in a quick and artful way. We hope you enjoy this poem on community foundations as much as we did. Thanks to NoCo Foundation friends and philanthropists, Wes and Trudy Sargent, who shared it with us.

Community Foundation

It’s not about giving to,
It’s about giving through.

It’s not about current operations,
It’s about building community capital.

It’s not about a short-term fix,
It’s about meeting changing needs.

It’s not about special interest groups,
It’s about being available to everyone.

It’s not about asking for money,
It’s about developing donors.

It’s not about meeting everyday needs,
It’s about solving issues forever.

It’s not about growing fast,
It’s about growing steadily stronger.

It’s not about being number one today,
It’s about being the ultimate one always.

It’s not about a single cause,
It’s about an objective overview.

It’s not about living in the past.
It’s about dreaming for the future.

It’s not about charity today,
It’s about Philanthropy forever.
