The Street Dog Coalition, founded in Fort Collins in 2015, has since expanded to more than 60 cities nationwide and is still growing. The Colorado-based nonprofit ‘takes care of lives on both ends of the leash’ by providing free veterinary care and related services to pets of people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. “We’re not here to make people feel sorry for animals that are living with homeless people. We’re here to show them how important that bond is,” says Hilary Wheeler, medical director with The Street Dog Coalition.
